Protocols and What to Expect
Before any appointment, our automated attendant will contact a patient 3-4 days before to remind them of their appointment day and time, the covid screening questions will be asked if you or anyone from your household has:
  1. Tested positive for covid-19 within the last 14 days
  2. Been exhibiting flu-like symptoms
  3. Travelled outside of Canada within the last 14 days
Anyone who responds yes, to any of these questions is instructed to call the office for further instructions as appointments may be postponed.

We also instruct patients that masks are mandatory upon arrival (masks with valves are not accepted). Patients and/or their companions may be asked to wait outside of the clinic until their appointment time, and companions may have to wait in their vehicle during the scheduled appointment.
Upon arrival patients will be welcomed by our greeter who will ask patients to sanitize their hands, have their temperature taken, and review the screening questions again. Anyone who fails screening may be asked to postpone their appointment.

The patient will then be guided to check-in at the reception desk, and companions will be asked to wait outside of the clinic to ensure social distancing. The waiting area has been modified to reflect social distancing requirements and the surfaces are frequently disinfected by the staff.
U Surgical Centre complies with the CPSO Covid-19 Guidelines for Independent Health Facilities
and Out of Hospital Premises.

We thank you for your cooperation and we will update our guidelines as the Covid-19 pandemic evolves.

Our Services

Cataract Surgery
Learn More
Performed by an ophthalmologist, cataract surgery is when the natural lens of the eye is removed after becoming cloudy (cataract). The lens is replaced with an artificial lens implant called an intraocular lens (IOL). This procedure is covered by OHIP, upgrades are available for refractive purposes to reduce the need for glasses.
Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (ReLACS)- utilizes a femtosecond laser, guided by 3D mapping technology in order to make precise blade free incisions and allows customization that can reduce corneal astigmatism.
Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract Surgery (ReLACS)
Also known as Clear Lens Exchange, this is a surgery that removes the clear natural lens of the eye and replaces it with an artificial lens, for the purpose of correcting refractive errors. Advances in technology have allowed people to enjoy sharper vision at near/far or both distances without glasses. This is often an alternative to Laser Eye Surgery.
Refractive Lens Exchange
A procedure that removes abnormal tissue growth on the surface of the sclera and cornea. Pterygiums are pinkish triangular growths that cover the surface of the cornea, causing discomfort and/or blurring of vision.
Pterygium Removal
These procedures are done on the upper and lower eyelids to improve eyelid laxity, comfort or appearance. Procedures done to improve the appearance around the eyes may not be covered by OHIP.
Ectropion/Entropion Blepharoplasty
A procedure that utilizes an excimer laser to gently reshape the cornea to improve refractive errors. This is done when people wish to eliminate or reduce their dependence on glasses. Laser eye procedures include Lasik and PRK.
Laser Vision Correction
A procedure that couples a photosensitive vitamin (riboflavin) and UV light to treat corneal conditions such as keratoconus. This treatment strengthens the cornea in order to slow or halt the progression of this disease.
